​Minister of Education Affirms Qatar's Support for UNESCO

His Excellency the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali Al-Hammadi, met in Paris on Saturday, on the sidelines of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), with a number of officials and personalities participating in the conference.

Dr. Al-Hammadi met with Ms. Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO's new director-general. He congratulated her and assured her of Qatar's ongoing support for UNESCO and its programmes and projects in all fields of education, science, culture, heritage protection, freedom of expression and other fields.

Ms. Azoulay praised Qatar's role in supporting UNESCO, and the importance of continuity of this support.

She also praised the great role played by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser as UNESCO's Envoy for Basic and Higher Education as well as the importance of the WISE Education Conference as an annual gathering of education experts and ministers from around the world.

Dr. Al-Hammadi also met with Kuwait's Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Mohamed Al-Faris.

During the meeting, the two ministers discussed means of exchanging expertise and enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the field of education, especially in the higher education.

Dr. Al-Hammadi also met with his Afghanistan counterpart Mr. Farouk Wardak, and discussed with him various aspects of co-operation in education. On Thursday he met with president of the Committee on Culture and Education at the French National Assembly Mr. Bruno Studer. The two sides discussed various cultural, and educational issues.

The meetings were attended by HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to France Mr. Khalid bin Rashid Al-Mansouri, the Secretary General of the Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture and Science Dr. Hamada Al-Sulaiti, and Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to UNESCO Dr. Ali Zainal.
